PSHE and Citizenship

These workshops focus on areas of PSHE and Citizenship using creative and performing arts to develop interest and encourage understanding of themes and issues.

Current workshops available:

PSHE KS2/3 programme - ASYLUM AND IMMIGRATION

A morning/afternoon session focusing on current issues regarding asylum in the UK using art, drama and a DVD.  Divided into three key areas:  What is an Asylum Seeker/Refugee/Illegal Immigrant?  How does it feel to leave your home?  What does the law say? This programme was developed, written and delivered in 58 primary schools during 2007 and 2008 - evaluations showed a greater understanding of the issues from children, more tolerance and respect and a sound understanding of how we make judgements based on information.

 

PSHE KS2/3 programme - POSITIVE FRIENDSHIPS

A morning, afternoon or full day session looking at the positive side of friendships, making up and conflict resolution.  A fun, lively way to tackle the subject of bullying in a more positive way.  Using art, drama and music activities children learn about how to support each other, deal with falling out and making up and what friendship really means.  Tailored for either KS2 or KS3 children.

Suitable for a full class - who work towards a mini assembly at the end of the day for the rest of the school to watch!

 

PSHE KS3/4 programme - SEX AND RELATIONSHIPS

Workshops and activities focusing on understanding trust, developing relationships with others and looking at equality within relationships.  Includes confidence building, 'delay' (delaying first sex) techniques and having the confidence to say 'no'.

Tailored to needs of individual schools, for example emphasis can be placed on teenage pregnancy/STI's/contraception etc.

 

PHSE KS3/4 programme - SEXUAL HEALTH AND HIV AWARENESS 'The Big Picture'

First, students see a hard hitting piece of drama where a young mum has contracted HIV through a blood transfusion.  Then students return to classes to play the 'high risk low risk' game.  The truth about how sexually transmitted diseases are caught is discussed in detail,  questions are answered and signposting is made for those who need further advice. 

Another game is also played, where students learn about the risks associated with causal sexual encounters.  The game is funny and interactive and sparks debate among pupils around the moral issues regarding sex and relationships.

Workshops are delivered by qualified youth workers with specialist knowledge and training in the issues.
