Kids go wild with the Wildcats this half term in Stamford
Last week, over 200 children took part in Wildcats Theatre Schools’ February Half Term programme of activities at Stamford Arts Centre.
On Monday 21st February 2011, 45 children took part in a specialist workshop being run by Wildcats Theatre School in partnership with Nu Flo Dance Company, who teach at the prestigious Pineapple Dance Studios in London. Tuesday saw children moving to the music from ‘Grease’ and Thursday focused on the famous Disney Channel cartoon ‘Phineas and Ferb’. Finally on the Friday children were treated to a TV presenting workshop, delivered by Wildcats and local Sky TV presenter Michelle Griffiths.
As part of Wildcats Theatre Schools’ half term activity programme, Mondays Pineapple Dance workshop was developed to enable children from the local area to benefit from the same expertise and knowledge as those who attend the dance school in Covent Garden. Winston Jean-Charles worked throughout the day on different styles and techniques of hip hop dance including popping, locking, break dancing and lyrical hip-hop.
Tuesday focussed on the music from the film ‘Grease’, whilst on Thursday, children learnt songs and dances from shows which feature on the Disney Channel. Children learnt the theme tune to the famous ‘Phineas and Ferb’ programme, as well as dance routines from the ‘Cheetah Girls’ and script from the programmes. Finally on Friday the Wildcats welcomed Michelle Griffiths, who has worked world wide teaching dance and musical theatre, as well as TV presenting with Sky. The groups became news reporters, interviewed celebrities and took to the streets of Stamford filming their reports.
Caz Dolby, founder of Wildcats said ‘Wildcats are really pleased that so many children took up the opportunity of attending one of our workshops this half term. We provide a varied programme of activities and this February also saw us bring the famous Pineapple name to Stamford. This is just one of many Wildcats holiday programmes that work in partnership with experts in areas such as Stage Make-Up, TV Presenting and Dance to offer a more varied programme of activities and we look forward to welcoming Winston and other Pineapple Performing Arts School tutors back to Wildcats soon’
