WILDCATS LAUNCH NEW HND/DEGREE COURSE FOR SEPTEMBER 2014

Wildcats Academy, in St Peters Hill, Stamford have been given approval to run a new Higher National Diploma (HND) and Degree course as part of their package of education to local young people.

The HND is a full time, two year course based at Wildcats in Stamford and suitable for those aged 18+ who have completed either A Levels or a Level 3 BTEC qualification. The course aims to develop students not only in their performing, but also in their teaching – so that they have the skills they need to be able to gain work in the industry.  An optional third year is also available, where students attend a university to complete the full degree.  Students on the course take part in at least 4 major performances plus at least two performances in the West End.

Wildcats run part time courses for children up to the age of 16 years.  16-19 year olds currently take the  BTEC Extended Diploma in Musical Theatre, a full time course which is run in partnership with New College Stamford and equivalent to studying A levels at college or 6th form. This new course gives students attending Wildcats the option of staying with the school for their higher education.

Applications are also welcome from non-students who are interested in a career in Musical Theatre, either teaching or performing.  Applicants must be aged 18 by 31st Aug 2014 and have the necessary entry requirements.  Any interested students need to contact Wildcats directly to book an interview/audition – there are very limited places on the course and we hope that young people from the local area will see this as an opportunity to continue their studies whilst being able to stay living in their local area – also saving money on the high costs of living away for their course.

Caz Dolby, of Wildcats said ‘We were very excited when we got confirmation that this course was running as from September.  It gives our current full time students a clear study pathway to achieving a degree.  Many of our students could not financially afford to live away and study at University, so this gives them the option of staying local but still continuing in education.’

Helen Holroyd, Age 18 from Stamford is a current student in her final year of the BTEC Level 3 course.  She said ‘It feels like I now have many more options when it comes to studying for my degree.  This new course will allow me to stay close to my friends and family and also save money on accommodation living away from home.’

Lauren Woodward, age 16 from Stamford is a Year 1 Academy student and starting to think about where she will go for her higher education courses.  She said ‘Although it’s still a way off I am starting to look at options for when I finish my BTEC course in just over a years’ time.  The new HND/Degree course sounds really interesting and will give me the skills I need to run my own performing arts business and also to perform in regional and national theatres across the country.’
